Most household circuits are shared — a bedroom’s outlets and lighting on one breaker is normal and fine. But some loads are not good neighbours. They draw heavily, they draw on startup, or they matter enough that you do not want them dropping out because someone plugged in a space heater two rooms away.

What a dedicated circuit installation involves
- Identifying the actual load, from the nameplate rather than a guess. A circuit is sized for the equipment it serves, and the number that matters is on the label, not in the manual’s marketing copy.
- A load calculation on the existing service, because a new circuit adds to a total your panel already has to carry. If that total is close to the limit, you need to know before the circuit goes in and not after.
- A breaker of the correct type and rating — and where the location or equipment calls for it, GFCI or AFCI protection, which is a code requirement in a growing number of places rather than an optional extra.
- A conductor run sized for the load and the distance. Long runs need upsizing to keep voltage drop in hand; a motor at the end of an undersized run will run hot and die early.
- A receptacle or hard-wired connection in the configuration the equipment actually takes, installed where the equipment actually sits.
- Testing, and a panel schedule that names the circuit — “garage freezer”, not “spare”.

Two outcomes are common: there is room, and we proceed; or there is not, and the honest answer is that you are looking at a panel or service upgrade first. We would rather tell you that on the first visit than sell you a circuit your service cannot carry.
Then we plan the route. In a finished house that means fishing walls where we can and being straightforward with you where we cannot — some routes need drywall opened, and hearing that up front is better than discovering it halfway through. In a garage, basement, shop or commercial space, surface raceway is often quicker, cheaper and perfectly appropriate.
