Wedgewood-Houston occupies the old industrial ground south of downtown Nashville, around the fairgrounds and the rail line, where warehouses and factory buildings have been steadily reborn as studios, galleries, workshops, venues, offices and places to live. Few Nashville neighbourhoods ask more interesting electrical questions, because almost every project here starts with a building designed for a completely different century of work.

The district earned its current identity through its makers. Artists and small manufacturers moved into the cheap industrial space first, and the neighbourhood grew around them — adaptive reuse of the old shells, new construction filling the gaps, and a residential population arriving among buildings that once held production lines. Berry Hill lies just to the south, Edgehill and 12 South up the hill to the west, and The Gulch across the interstate to the northwest.
What adaptive reuse really involves electrically
An old industrial building usually has either far more electrical infrastructure than its new life needs or far less — and sometimes both at once. Heavy three-phase gear may still hang on the walls while the lighting and receptacle provision is hopeless for a modern studio. Our first task is a survey: what the service actually is, which of the legacy equipment is live, what is abandoned in place, and whether the distribution can be reused or must be replaced. From that we design for the new use — subpanels placed where tenants actually are, circuits and receptacles at working height and working density, lighting appropriate to galleries, workshops or events, and safety systems brought up to what current code and Metro inspection require.
Makers, studios and venues
Working tenants bring working loads. Kilns, welders, compressors, laser cutters, stage lighting and sound rigs all want dedicated capacity and clean power, and several of them want 240-volt or three-phase supplies that a casually subdivided building never planned for. We size and run those circuits properly, sort out grounding where audio hum or interference is the complaint, and add surge protection ahead of sensitive digital equipment.
The residential mix
New townhomes and converted living spaces thread through the district, and we serve them with the usual span of residential work — EV circuits, added capacity, lighting, troubleshooting. Loft-style conversions deserve special mention: exposed-structure aesthetics leave wiring visible, so conduit runs have to be laid out as carefully as the finishes they pass. Done well, exposed raceway becomes part of the look; done casually, it is the first thing every visitor notices.
Every project here ends the same way regardless of what the building used to make or what it makes now: permitted where required, inspected, tested and documented, with drawings or photographs of concealed routes handed over so the next fit-out starts from knowledge instead of demolition.
