About Cedar Hill
The town owes its existence to the railroad and to the crops grown around it, and it has never grown much beyond that. What you find today is a handful of residential streets, a few remaining commercial and agricultural buildings near the tracks, and farms spread over the surrounding countryside. There is very little new construction, so almost everything we are called to here is existing property with existing electrical problems.
When old equipment finally becomes the problem
The single most common job in a town like this is replacing a service and panel that has simply run out of life. That covers fuse boxes still doing daily duty, panels of a make and vintage with a poor record, boards packed so full that a new circuit means a tandem breaker in a slot that was never meant for one, and service masts, weatherheads and meter bases that have corroded or pulled loose.
A panel upgrade done properly is not a swap. It is a load calculation, a decision about service size, grounding and bonding brought up to standard, circuits distributed sensibly rather than transferred over in whatever order they came off the old bus, and a permit and inspection. On older Cedar Hill houses the grounding and bonding portion is frequently the biggest real improvement in the job, and it is the part nobody sees.
Agricultural buildings
Farm wiring around here has usually been accumulated rather than designed. Sheds fed from the house, receptacles hung on nails, cable stapled along a rafter and chewed through by something, and lighting positioned for a use the building stopped having twenty years ago. We take those back to something coherent: a correctly sized feeder, a panel and disconnect at the building, grounding that is real, sealed fittings where the environment demands them, and circuits split so that one fault does not take out the whole barn.
Motors, compressors, augers and pumps get their own dedicated capacity, because starting current on a shared circuit is the reason half of them keep dropping out.
Safety inspections before you buy
Property changes hands out here on land and location as much as on the house. If you are buying, a documented electrical inspection tells you what you are taking on before you own it — wiring types, service capacity, grounding, protection and the condition of everything at the outbuildings. That is far cheaper to know in advance than to discover afterwards.
